The guest and the brief
Design for the guest. Understand the operation.
A pilgrimage hotel and a leisure retreat ask different things of a building. The studio begins with who will stay, why they are travelling and how the property will be run.
That brief informs the plan: how guests find their way, where they meet, and where they can withdraw. Architecture and interiors are developed together so that the building’s character carries through to the room.

Arrival and orientation
Make the entrance legible and the route to reception clear, with space to pause after a journey.

Rooms and privacy
Plan the room around rest, privacy and movement, considering the position of the bed, furniture and openings together.

Light, climate, and comfort
Assess orientation, shading and daylight early, so that views and generous openings work with the climate.

Identity and continuity
Carry the character of the property through its materials, furniture and details, from shared spaces to private rooms.

Architecture, interiors, performance
Comfort has a technical foundation.
Shweta’s postgraduate training at the National University of Singapore and consultancy work in Singapore included daylight analysis, façade performance and heat-load calculations.
At Katra, this attention is evident in the northeast-facing rooms and louvred façade. The case study explains how orientation and shade are built into the architecture.
Practice and collaboration

For commissions in India, the studio’s work spans architecture and interiors, design development, detailing and coordination through realisation. The scope is agreed for each project.
For overseas projects, Studio Meraki can lead concept design, spatial planning, interiors and design development, collaborating with locally registered architects and project teams responsible for statutory approvals and local delivery.
